Namaste and welcome!

Here I share some info from my little running adventure in the Everest region 2021, which may possibly be useful to others planning to visit the area.

It is not really a blog, because I've been way too lazy to write a lot, but in short I hiked and ran the Three Passes trek (starting in Jiri) and climbed Lobuche East (false summit). It took me 23 days and I carried around 8 kg. Most of the info below is pretty technical, but if you're not interested in that I hope you may at least find the Relive video inspirational :)

I had a blast thanks to all the wonderful and welcoming people I met and I hope you will too!

GPX files

Click here for GPX files (recorded by my Garmin forerunner 935), which you may download to your watch or phone and use for planning or navigation. They are named day1, day2 etc, which you can compare with the charts below to see which part of the route that corresponds to. Day 1 was November 17 when I started from Jiri and day 23 corresponds to December 9 when I flew out from Lukla.

There are also three combined GPX files: 1:"Jiri to Namche" (Day 1-8). 2:Three Passes trek (day 11-23). 3:The whole route (day 1-23). If you wish to use these files for navigation, please just be aware that I made a few detours from the standard routes and I got a little lost at occasions, so naturally please bring also other maps to the mountains :)

Stats

Below are a couple of charts, which aim to visualize the elevation profile and other aspects of the route. My watch was not fully calibrated, so the altitude was probably slightly higher (≈50 m) in reality. But in terms of altitude difference between two locations and ascent/descent during a certain day, the data should be fairly accurate.

Generally I think this itinerary worked fairly well for me in terms of acclimatisation. On two occasions, I rezlly suffered from altitude sickness though; Day 3 (towards Pikey Peak) and Day 13 (over Renjo La pass). After those two climbs I was pretty done and had to take full rest days to recover. Day 21 (Climbing Lobuche) was also really on the limit of my capacity, but I somehow made it up thanks to two great and cheerful friends!
